Planning our year (Or alternatively 'Ohhh there're so many places, where do we want to go?!')
When we decided we were pursuing this house-sitting gig seriously, we had an idea that we’d first go to Europe for a few months and then head back to Australia for Christmas, picking up house-sits along the way. Then we’d rinse, wash, repeat while maybe taking in the US and Canada the next year. The biggest obstacle we foresaw would be finding available sits that lined up with previous ones. We figured we’d just check-in daily with the various house-sitting sites to find the ones we wanted to apply for. It’d just be a regular-run-of-the-mill part of our morning admin… or so we thought!
We didn’t expect to be getting up every morning excited over what places might be available that day, or spending our breakfasts happily poring over Google Maps and travel sites, hyped about seeing parts of the world we haven’t visited yet. And let’s not forget meeting new critters. (We almost applied for a sit in Kiev, even though it wouldn’t have worked at all with our travel plans, because they posted a picture of their cat in a cereal box and it was adorable!)
In the space of just two weeks, we’ve lined up a sit near Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills (beautiful for anyone who isn’t familiar), a wonderful month in France for May, followed by around three weeks in Crete for June. And now we’re on the hunt for somewhere for July through to the end of the year.
Now we’ve just got to brush up on our French (and some Greek…and Spanish) before we go!
